Onkyo vs Denon vs Marantz
Which is more Reliable between Onkyo / Denon / Marantz - accoring to statistics and CHAT GPT So this has been bothering for a long time, we sell plenty receivers and what we realised is that faulty / comebacks are mostly Denon. Surprised since they ask premium prices compared to Onkyo.
These are the stats according to CHAT GPT worldwide : The best current retailer reliability dataset I could find is from Digitec/Galaxus, which publishes the percentage of AV receivers that develop a warranty defect within the first 24 months. Depending on the country snapshot/date, the figures sit roughly around:
Brand | Defect within first 24 months |
Onkyo | about 2.2–3.2% |
Marantz | about 2.8–3.3% |
Denon | about 3.6–4.9% |
One recent Galaxus dataset shows Onkyo 2.5%, Denon 3.4%, Marantz 3.4%. Another shows Onkyo 2.6%, Marantz 3.3%, Denon 3.6%.
So, based on the best statistical evidence I can find, I would currently put them roughly:
Onkyo → slightly fewer warranty failures Marantz → middle Denon → slightly more warranty failures
But the difference between Denon and Marantz is tiny — essentially around 3.3–3.4% in this dataset — so I would not call Denon inherently unreliable.
Something more interesting appears when you look at returns rather than confirmed faults. Denon is consistently noticeably higher:
Onkyo: about 2.5%
Marantz: about 3%
Denon: roughly 5%
Our own personal stats shows a very similar faulty / return ratio with Denon being the most unreliable with a 5 out of a 100 return, Marantz 2 out of a hundred and Onkyo only 1.5 out of a hundred.
Brand | Faulty out of 100 | Your defect rate |
Denon | 5 | 5% |
Marantz | 2 | 2% |
Onkyo | 1 | 1% |
Something to think about before buying a receiver.....
