Onkyo RZ50 vs Denon X4800H

The shootout everyone was waiting for is here.

Lets start with the Denon X4800H (R69000)

  • 9.4 channels

  • 11.4 channel processing

  • 125 W (8 Ω, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 2 channel driven)

  • HDMI 2.1

  • Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Auro 3D capable

  • HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, 8K Upscaling, 8K Passthrough

  • AirPlay 2, DLNA, HEOS

  • Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

  • USB and Phono inputs

Then we move onto the Onkyo RZ50 (R44000)

  • 9.2 channels

  • 11.2 channel processing

  • 120 W (8 Ω, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, 2 channel driven)

  • HDMI 2.1

  • THX Selectâ„¢ certified

  • Dolby Atmos, DTS:X capable

  • HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, 8K Upscaling, 8K Passthrough

  • AirPlay 2, Chromecast

  • Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

  • USB and Phono inputs

  • Dirac built in

On paper very similar except the Denon having slightly more power (5Watt) and 11.4 processing vs 11.2.. The denon does not have Dirac (R6000 extra) but is can take 4 sub woofers (is this really necessary). Other than that the Onkyo definitely sounds more crisp and for the person who likes detailed music and clear sound effect will choose this over the Denon especially with a R25000 price difference. My opinion after testing both side by side is the following:

Denon 9/10

Onkyo 10/10
